About me:
You work hard. You eat relatively healthy. You have friends and family who love you. You exercise a little bit each week. You have a spiritual practice. You go on vacation and laugh as often as you can.
But something still feels like it’s falling short of “healthy.”
Your weight ping pongs back and forth. Your energy, self-confidence, and stress levels are all over the place some days wondering if you’ll ever be enough or if you’ll ever have enough time to do what you “need” to do. You keep searching for that understanding. That “thing” that will bring you peace and acceptance.
This is my journey too.
I was a chronic over-worker to avoid facing what I was actually feeling. I constantly felt guilty for not doing enough or being enough.
I was the first to discount my own body and admire someone else’s. I defended my diet and exercise as “better than most” instead of really listening to my body to understand what it truly needed. I’m a medical professional after all. I “know this stuff.”
Then drip by drip my eyes were opened. It wasn’t an “ah ha” moment for me, but rather pieces of insights and information coming together over time.
Sessions with a counselor, books like “Food what the heck should I eat,” and “Unconventional Medicine.” The opportunity to learn, grow, and lead professionally in a field (marketing) that I never thought I’d work in. And these past few years, experimenting with ancestral practices (like eating liver!).
I’ve learned to listen to my body and appreciate it for all it is and does. I’ve learned what foods make me feel good and bring me energy – and what foods don’t! I’ve learned to prioritize sleep and make space for scripture, prayer, and stillness. I’ve learned to listen and recognize needs in others as well as my own when communicating. I’ve learned the best way to live this life is to be in community and not do it alone.
This life is a journey. Some days I’m better at practicing what I’ve learned more than others. (It’s unlikely I’ll stop eating M&M’s or enjoying a glass of wine with friends.)
The beauty of personal growth is powerful – a gift not only to ourselves, but to those around us.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to partner together to help you live your best life – to Journey Well today and every day.
