The value of a dream.

My husband and I are dreaming.

We’re dreaming big!

We’re dreaming of owning a space to share with others that promotes self-care. A place that allows people to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. A place that restores energy levels with ancestrally rich food, opportunities to play, space to sit or walk in silence. A place for family and friends to be together in community, growing with one another.

A dream to own a bed and breakfast by water where we can run wellness retreats and host events that nurture the soul. (I told you it was big!)

It’s a dream I’ve had for a while, but we resurfaced it as we’re seeing and feeling the world shift around us. We’re seeing a world calling for reconnecting with the things that matter. Those things are different for each one of us, but we recognize at the foundation of all of us we have the same basic needs – love, connection, spirituality, contribution, community, peace, respect...

I’ve found over the last year the more we create space for these within ourselves - our families, our communities, our organizations - the richer our lives become.

And how do we do that? I believe a lot of inner work and dreaming together.

I’ll save the inner work for another post, but I’d like to propose the value I see in cultivating our own dream(s).

  1. We need your good idea to make the world a better place.

    • Please do not assume someone has already thought of it and withhold that life changing proposition. It might seem impossible right now, but if dreams were easy they wouldn’t hold the same value.

  2. We need the optimism dreams generate.

    • Even in the short time we’ve resurfaced our big dream, my mood has shifted. I see things from a different perspective and feel uplifted by what could be. My imagination is activated and my senses are awakened.

  3. We need the faith that it takes to tackle “the impossible.”

    • For me, our dream has only deepened my faith and increased my time spent in prayer. I’m not asking that God give me the dream, but rather may I hear His will in my life.

My hope for all of us is we explore our dreams – whether big or small. My hope is we work together to make this world a place of love, compassion, and acceptance of ourselves and others.

Happy Dreaming!

Bonus: Dreaming tips.

If you’re interested to tackle this, but are new to the dreaming world, here are a few tips I’d like to offer you.

  1. Reflect on what you value – what gives you energy, what excites you, what fuels your soul?

  2. Set any barriers, challenges, road blocks to the side – get about those clouds and take a 30,000 foot view to what would be “awesome to have/see/build/grow”

  3. Find a way to capture it – journal, short video for yourself, dream board – however you’re inspired!
